The Steering Committee meeting of the ‘Education for Sustainable Development-II’ (ESD-II) project, funded by the Swiss Cooperation in Mongolia and implemented jointly by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) and the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) was successfully held online on March 31. The meeting was attended by 15 participants including D.Ganbold, State Secretary of the MET, chairperson of the Steering Committee, D.Batbaatar, State Secretary of the MES and Benoit Meyer-Bisch, Deputy Head of the Swiss Cooperation in Mongolia, Vice chairs of the Steering Committee, the members of the Steering Committee and the project team.
The main intervention and results for the 2020 project implementation of the host organization-MIER and local implementing NGO-ITCNE were discussed. The meeting also held a discussion on the project operational plan and associated budget for 2021, developed with input from the Technical, advisory, and coordination group of the project. The operational plan was recommended for implementation after being updated by the suggestions and inputs made by the Steering committee members.
Overview of the National forum on ESD partnership and cooperation, one of the main national events planned for 2021 was presented. The event will be online based using advanced technology and covering a wide range of stakeholders as an audience.
D.Batbaatar, State Secretary of the MES said “Hence the activities planned for 2020 are pushed forward for this year in the wake of the COVID situation, the project should respond to the pressing needs of intensive implementation.” In his recommendation, Benoit Meyer-Bisch, Deputy Head of Swiss Cooperation in Mongolia and Vice-chair of the Steering committee noted, “Gender analysis needs to be carried out for the handbooks and other documentation, developed by the project”. He also added, “For the year 2021, the project team needs to work flexibly aiming for the expected outputs.”
