Higher education sector brief introduction.
The number of universities and colleges operating in Mongolia in the 2020-2021 academic year is 88, of which 37 (42%) are universities, 48 (54.6%) are higher education institutions, and 3 (3.4%) are colleges.
Of the 48 universities, 3 (6.3%) are foreign universities. Of the total schools, 65 (73.9%) are non-government, 20 (22.7%) are state-owned, and 3 (3.4%) are public / religious.
The number of university and college students reached 147.3 thousand in the 2020-2021 academic year, a decrease of 1.1 (0.7%) thousand from the previous academic year.
In terms of gender, 89.5 (60.7%) thousand of the total number of university and college students in the 2020-2021 academic year are women and 57.8 (39.3%) thousand are men. The sex ratio of male to female students in the 2020-2021 academic year is 65 men for every 100 women.
Of the total students, 130.1 (88.4%) thousand are university students, 16.8 (11.4%) thousand are higher education institution students, 0.1 (0.1%) thousand are college students, and 0.2 (0.2%) thousand are foreign university students.
In terms of ownership of university and college students, 76.8 (52.2%) thousand of the total number of students in the 2020-2021 academic year are state-owned, 63.5 (43.1%) thousand are privately owned, and 6.9 (4.7%) thousand are public / is studying in a religious school.
138.2 thousand (93.9%) of university and college students study in Ulaanbaatar and 9.1 thousand (6.1%) in rural areas.
Of the total students, 134.6 (91.4%) thousand study by day, 3.0 (2.0%) thousand study by evening, and 9.7 (6.6%) thousand study by correspondence.
Of the total number of students, 119.1 (80.9%) thousand are studying for bachelor's degree, 24.8 (16.8%) thousand for master's degree, 3.2 (2.2%) thousand for doctoral degree and 124 (0.1%) for diploma degree.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, there are 25.2 thousand new entrants, of which 15.8 (62.9%) thousand are women.
In the 2019-2020 academic year, a total of 28.1 thousand students graduated from universities and colleges, of which 17.3 (61.6%) thousand were women.
The total number of university and college employees is 12,000 in the 2020-2021 academic year, of which 7.1 (59.7%) thousand are full-time teachers. In terms of the number of full-time teachers, 4.3 thousand (60.4%) are female and 2.8 thousand (39.6%) are male.
In terms of the number of full-time teachers, 4.3 thousand (59.9%) teach in state-owned and 2.9 thousand (40.1%) private schools in the 2020-2021 academic year.
