Mongolia and the United Kingdom Discuss Expanding Educational Cooperation

Minister of Education L. Enkh-Amgalan has held a meeting with Edwin Samuel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Mongolia, to exchange views on expanding bilateral cooperation in the education sector.

During the meeting, the two sides focused on enhancing the quality and accessibility of English language training and supporting teacher development. A government-backed British project, implemented in partnership with UNICEF to strengthen the capacity of English teachers in rural areas, has successfully trained 739 teachers across 219 public schools in eight aimags—representing over 20 percent of all English teachers nationwide.

To reinforce the teacher preparation system, discussions touched upon developing partnerships with Cambridge Partnership for Education. Key topics included strengthening the capacity of the Mongolian State University of Education (MSUE), updating teacher training curricula, and supporting the professional development of educators and researchers.

In higher education, Minister L. Enkh-Amgalan expressed gratitude for the Chevening Scholarship programme, which continues to support young Mongolians pursuing master's degrees in the UK.

Furthermore, both parties discussed turning the memorandum of understanding signed between the National University of Mongolia (NUM) and NCUK into tangible learning opportunities. The Minister also expressed interest in facilitating partnerships between other Mongolian universities and UK institutions to develop joint degree options, such as 2+2 and 1+3 articulation programmes. These initiatives will allow students to complete the initial phase of their studies in Mongolia before finishing their degree in the UK, significantly broadening access to international education.
