The National University of Mongolia (NUM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NCUK, an international higher education network based in the United Kingdom, opening opportunities for Mongolian students to pursue 2+2 degree programmes at around 100 partner universities across the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and other countries.
The NCUK network includes 11 universities ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, NUM will develop and submit programme proposals, select programmes, and organize student admissions, with an initial focus on priority and high-demand fields of study.
The programme will also enable students to receive financing under the Government Resolution No. 215, which regulates the provision of scholarships, loans, grants and other forms of financial support to students of higher education institutions.
Previously, the Education Loan Fund provided financing for students to complete three- or four-year bachelor’s degree programmes abroad. Starting next year, the implementation of the 2+2 programme is expected to reduce the amount of government-funded loans required per student while expanding access to financing through the Education Loan Fund.
The cooperation is expected to contribute to the development of Mongolia’s human resources, strengthen educational capacity, and reduce the financial burden associated with completing a full four-year degree abroad.
Currently, around 600 Mongolian students are studying in the United Kingdom. Of these, 75 students are studying under the President of Mongolia’s “Scholarship Programme,” 52 through loans from the Education Loan Fund, and one student through a grant.
