Between April 13 and April 20, 2026, a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation process was successfully conducted to review the activities and consolidate the results of the joint research teams under the Mongolia-Japan Higher Engineering Education Development project. This project is being implemented through the partnership between the Government of Mongolia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The evaluation was carried out jointly by the Ministry of Education, the Joint Project Implementation Unit (JPIU), and the project consultancy team. The review assessed the performance, outcomes, and future development trajectories of 26 joint research teams from the National University of Mongolia (NUM), the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), and the Mongolian State University of Agriculture (MSUA).
For over a decade, these research teams have operated sustainably across diverse fields, including environmental science, energy, agriculture, advanced materials, and digital technology. Their efforts continue to play a pivotal role in fostering the development of research-based universities in Mongolia.
A total of 405 articles has been published in high-impact international journals (149 from NUM, 250 from MUST, and 6 from MSUA). Several startup companies have been successfully established within these universities, laying the groundwork for research-driven businesses.
Key milestones achieved through the project include:
- Concrete advancements that have emerged in drone technology, biotechnological products, new materials, and digital solutions.
- The establishment of advanced engineering laboratories, solar energy systems, and pilot testing centers has significantly elevated the research environment to a new international standard.
