"EF EFEKTA" ONLINE ENGLISH LEARNING PROJECT POWERED BY AI AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY BEING IMPLEMENTED IN MONGOLIA

The Minister of Education met with representatives of EF Efekta, who are successfully implementing an AI-based online English language training program. The project currently involves over 10,000 participants, including 7,000 students from grades 8-12 in Nalaikh, Bagannuur, and Bagakhangai districts, vocational education (TVET) students, civil servants, and over 2,000 English language and ICT teachers.

According to the EF English Proficiency Index 2024-2025 Report, Mongolia's English proficiency level is ranked as "Low," placing 84th out of 116 countries, with only 5-10% of the population speaking English.

Furthermore, data from joint projects with UNICEF and the UK indicates that out of approximately 6,200 English teachers in Mongolia, 62% do not meet international standard requirements, while only 38% possess knowledge at a level that satisfies international English teaching standards.

To address this proficiency gap, the "EF EFEKTA" online English training project, utilizing artificial intelligence and technological advancements, has been launched in Mongolia.

Learners enrolled in the AI-based EF EFEKTA online training benefit from the following advantages:

  • Students undergo an attainment test and begin learning at a level based strictly on their actual assessment.
  • Students can progress at their own desired speed.
  • Provides the opportunity to learn individually without fear or embarrassment.
  • Integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Learners gain experience in utilizing artificial intelligence.

This project aims to support the content of the national general education online English curriculum. By utilizing the AI-based EF Efekta platform, the project seeks to alleviate the English language teacher shortage, reduce teacher workload, and create opportunities for creative instruction.

In the 10 weeks since the project's inception, students have shown progress of 3-4 levels. Scaling this project nationwide will allow students to rapidly improve their English proficiency regardless of teacher availability, ultimately assisting them in gaining admission to international universities.

Representatives from EF Efekta stated their readiness to sponsor a one-week training program at learning centers in the UK to enhance teacher skills. They emphasized that teachers require long-term, stable programs to ensure sustainable development.
