The education sector budget for 2026 has been approved at 5.38 trillion MNT, an increase of 598.4 billion MNT from the previous year. Of this, 4.39 trillion MNT are allocated for current expenses, 1.1 trillion MNT for investments, and 117.1 billion MNT for repayable loans. And 4.78 trillion MNT of the budget will come from the state budget, 111.4 billion from loans, and 5.5 billion from operating income.
Education sector expenditure accounts for 5.2 percent of GDP and 16.4 percent of total state budget expenditure. The sector has 93,353 employees in 2,429 organizations and enrolls 1.14 million students, an increase of 24.7 thousand from the previous year.
The year 2026 has been declared the "Year to Support Education" and plans are being made to improve the quality, accessibility, and environment of education, as well as implement policies aimed at teachers and students.
