Minister of Education and Science L. Enkh-Amgalan and Ms. Regina Rutenberg, Chargée d’affaires of the German Embassy Ulaanbaatar, held a meeting to discuss the German-Mongolian cooperation in the fields of education and science.
Both sides agreed that the German-Mongolian Institute of Resources and Technology (GMIT), jointly established in 2013, is a unique institution in Mongolia, being a highly specialized university with an emphasis on practical application. As a highlight of the two countries’ cooperation in higher education, both sides are committed to working on the further development of the GMIT. To that end, Ms. Rutenberg asked the Minister to support a favorable legal environment.
Furthermore, both sides discussed the sector of vocational education and training, as Germany is actively engaged in this field in Mongolia with many projects and partners. The Minister welcomed the German contribution and outlined the plans of his ministry for this sector in the near future. As one of the next steps to facilitate quality of vocational education in Mongolia, a new TVET teacher master’s program, jointly developed by German and Mongolian partners, will be launched in February.
As a tangible testament of the outstanding German-Mongolian cooperation in the field of archeology over many years, Ms. Rutenberg presented Minister Enkh-Amgalan with the illustrated volume “Karakorum”, highlighting 20 years of joint scientific research in the framework of the German-Mongolian Karakorum Expedition. The volume was composed by Mongolian and German archeologists to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the founding of Karakorum, and also includes outlooks of the next steps of the cooperation, such as visualization of research results for the public and a planned master’s program on “Computer- and Geoscience in Archeology”.
