"NIPPON FOUNDATION" SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS AT DOMESTIC UNIVERSITIES TO BE IMPLEMENTED FOR 12 YEARS

The President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa received Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Honorary Chairman of the "Nippon Foundation" of Japan.

In 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Nippon Foundation to launch the "Japan-Mongolia Sasakawa Scholarship Program," which aims to provide full scholarships to 1,000 students at domestic universities.

Currently, the first 100 students are successfully enrolled at the National University of Mongolia (NUM), the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), the Mongolian University of Life Sciences (MULS), and the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST).

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the scholarship program will make a valuable contribution to preparing the professional workforce necessary for national movements such as "One Billion Trees," "Food Supply and Security," and "Healthy Mongolian."

Recipients of the scholarship will major in fields including:

  • Environmental Science, Forestry, and Ecology
  • Clinical Medicine, Public Health, and Nutrition
  • Animal Husbandry, Agronomy, and Plant Protection
  • Food Production, Food Supply and Security
  • Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Engineering

Upon graduation, scholarship recipients will sign a contract to work in rural areas for three years.

Furthermore, the Nippon Foundation plans to implement programs for young staff from the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to attend short-term professional development training in Japan.

During the event, President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor to Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Honorary Chairman of the Nippon Foundation, and the Order of the Polar Star to Mr. Yuji Mori, Special Advisor to the Foundation.
